Recent changes to a Government-backed energy efficiency scheme means UK homeowners and private tenants could be eligible for up to a 100% grant to replace their old and inefficient electric heaters.
Under the latest phase of the ECO3 scheme, qualifying applicants can receive a free upgrade to energy efficient Dimplex Quantum Storage Heaters, the world’s most advanced electric space heater offering savings of up to 47% when compared to an electric convector or radiator system.
Free Storage Heaters
Heating your home can be hard to manage and a huge drain on your finances. Unfortunately, the costs can be especially high for those using old, inefficient electric heaters that rely on using high cost, on-peak energy.
Introduced to help low-income households improve the energy efficiency of their homes, the latest phase of the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO3) scheme now includes grants that fund replacing your old electric room heaters with modern, more energy efficient solutions.
As well as being much cheaper to run and saving you money on your energy bills, these new efficient heaters can help create a warmer, more pleasant environment in which to live. They can also improve your home’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.
Under the ECO3 scheme, a variety of different grants are also available, including funding for cavity wall, party wall and loft insultation. You can find more information about these grants elsewhere on our website.
Dimplex Quantum Storage Heaters
If you are a low-income household and your property is heated by old and inefficient electric heaters, you could receive a free upgrade to new efficient Dimplex Quantum Storage Heaters.
These high heat retention storage heaters use low cost, off-peak energy to heat your home, making them much cheaper to run than their predecessors. What’s more, they have the ability to adapt to your usage and the individual conditions in your home, allowing them to deliver heat only when it is required and thereby minimising energy wastage.
The Quantum includes a variety of advanced controls that allow you to determine precisely when you want your heaters to be activated, with a 7-day programmer for pre-setting your heating requirements in advance.
By using cheaper, off-peak energy for the majority of usage, these heaters offer savings of up to 27% when compared to standard storage heaters – and up to 47% versus an electric convector or radiator system.

To be eligible for funding for grants under the ECO3 scheme, you must be a homeowner (owner occupier) or private tenant (with the landlord’s permission) who meets all current eligibility criteria and lives in a qualifying property.
ECO3 grants are available to people claiming a wide variety of benefits. If you don’t receive benefits, grants may also be available under Flexibility Eligibility (LA Flex) criteria, which allows local authorities to expand eligibility criteria to include vulnerable and fuel-pool households.
