What’s on offer?

The UK’s big energy providers are under obligation to cut the UK’s carbon emissions – and they can face huge fines if they miss their targets.

As such, the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme was set up to provide low-income households with funding to cover the costs of making their homes more efficient.

Up to 100% grants are available for a variety of home improvements, including cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and boiler replacement. By upgrading to a more efficient boiler and stopping heat from escaping through your walls and loft, you can slash your energy bills and enjoy a warmer, more efficient home.

Free Cavity Wall Insulation

Most homes built between the 1920s and 1990s have cavity walls, which means there is a gap between the internal and external walls that allows heat to escape.

In an uninsulated home, around a third of all heat is lost through the walls, meaning filling the cavity with insulating material could help cut your energy bills by as much as £305 a year.

Cavity wall insulation grants are available now – so find out today if you’re eligible.

Free Loft Insulation

It isn’t just uninsulated walls that can result in unexpectedly high fuel bills. A quarter of heat is also lost through the roof, meaning a simple measure like loft insulation can also have a huge impact on the amount you shell out each year on fuel bills.

According to the latest figures from the Energy Savings Trust, a grant to cover the cost of insulating your loft could help you save up to £250 a year in a typical detached home.

Free Boiler Grants

Around half of all fuel bills go on heating and hot water, so it’s easy to see why being stuck with an old and inefficient boiler won’t do much good for your bank balance!

Thankfully, the latest A-rated models are much cheaper to run than their predecessors – and grants are now available to homeowners and tenants who have a boiler that’s more than 8 years old.

Although figures vary, independent research shows a new A-rated condensing boiler with programmer and thermostat could help a typical detached house save over £315 a year. Meanwhile, a semi-detached property could cut their bills by up to £205 – or £175 in a mid-terrace home.

Are you entitled to an ECO grant?

If you’re claiming benefits, there’s a good chance you may be able to claim a grant.

In addition, the latest version of the ECO3 scheme also provides local authorities with the power to adapt eligibility criteria to their particular area. This means you may be able to receive funding even if you do NOT claim benefits, providing you meet all other personal eligibility and property criteria.

It’s well worth checking to see if you are entitled to a grant, even if you don’t think you are or have been turned down in the past.

We can advise on whether you qualify for funding and arrange for a registered surveyor to check that your property also meets all eligibility criteria. Contact us today to find out more.
